We spent 12 days in Japan and our time with Makoon in Kyoto was an absolute highlight our of trip. Makoon totally understood what we were looking for and created an amazing day for us — both off on and off the beaten track in Kyoto. His engaging personality, warmth and genuine enthusiasm for the history, culture and specialness of Kyoto (and Japan generally) made spending time with him wonderful. His knowledge is extensive and he was excellent at making it a fun, interactive day rather than a “walking lecture” as is the case with many other guides. In addition, he gave us great recommendations for some special items we were looking to find and could not have been more helpful.
As anyone reading this probably knows already, Kyoto, while stunningly beautiful, is also challenged with an unprecedented level of tourism and all that entails. Makoon helped us see Kyoto in a more authentic, quieter and more meaningful way, which was exactly what we were looking for.
