We came to Kyoto not knowing what to expect. Even though we are not religious, Makoon’s tours of shrines and temples were detailed, moving, and very special. He also took us through a flower district, and explained the signs on the doors, and the Geisha culture, which we could not have understood with him. Makoon wisely suggested two mornings rather than a full day, as it was so hot in August, and we stopped for AC and coffee breaks in some beautiful cafes. His knowledge of this history and culture of Kyoto and Japan is unsurpassed, and we came away with a deeper appreciation of Japanese life and society. Makoon is open, warm, and eager to answer all questions, and is passionate about his work. We cannot recommend him strongly enough.
